Blackwood Camping Area

You will locate the Blackwood Camping Area in the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve app. 1 km from the forest boundary along Murrindindi Rd. You will find signposts directing you to the Blackwood campsites. 

The Murrundindi Reserve is near the northern edge of the Toolangi State Forest and offers excellent bush camping next to the river. This area is popular with bushwalkers who visit waterfalls and remains of sawmilling activities. There are a total of 7 different designated camping areas extending a period of some 5 kilometres within the Murrindindi Reserve, Campsites are generally well forested and shady, with basic facilities only meaning you will need to carry your own water and firewood.

Costs to camp in the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve are app. $6 per car, per night, small van $17 and large vehicle $28 per night. The Ranger verbally advised that a motorhome is classed as a car.

Registration is via an honesty box at the Information Board – the area is patrolled by a ranger who checks that camping fees have been paid.

One of the more popular bush walks in the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve is the Murrindindi River Walk. This one-way walk takes app. 3 hours, and is 12-kilometres in length. It has short, but steep hills and the track is well formed. Some bushwalking experience recommended, start at Suspension Bridge or the Cascades picnic area and follow the Murrindindi River that extends the entire length of the Reserve. The walk crosses over five and features river views through the forest. The walk is accessible from most of the picnic and camping areas in the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve.
