Old Coach Camping Area Big River
The Old Coach camping area is located south of Jim Bullock, several kilometres down the unsealed Big River Rd from the intersection with the Eildon–Jamieson Rd. The Old Coach camping area is accessed 3.5 kilometres along Big RIver Road, which in turn is signposted off Jamieson-Eildon Road some 1.3 kilometres south of The Pines Camping area. This camping location is best suited to tent based camping, however smaller campervans will be OK. You must carry your own firewood and drinking water.
This is one of several camping areas situated in the Big River State Forest; the forest is located app. 180 km north east of Melbourne and south-east of Eildon. The Big River State forest provides excellent opportunities for camping, bushwalking, fishing, exploring, mountain biking, trail bike riding and 4 wheel driving. The heritage classified Big River is at the heart of this forested valley.
The Lower Big River camping areas are situated within Big River State forest and consist of a number of riverside camping areas together with spots for day visitors along Eildon-Jamieson Road and Big River Road. Many of the sites are not suitable for larger caravans or motorhomes and most only offer very basic facilities.
Bushwalkers will want to explore the nearby Bald Spur Track, while trail-bike riders will enjoy Newmans Track.
