Camping Mount Disappointment State Forest is popular, and accessible being a location quite close to Melbourne with plenty of facilities, camping areas and 4wd trails. The park is popular with bushwalkers, especially those seeking to recreate Hamilton Hume and William Hovell who first climbed Mount Disappointment in 1824. There are many tracks within the park allowing for four wheel driving, with many quite challenging and requiring lots of experience. Camping at Mount Disappointment is also popular with trail bikers and for mountain biking.
Horse riding enthusiasts and other large groups often base themselves at the number 1 Camp at Mount Disappointment, It is a spacious open site that is often very busy. To access the campground at Mount Disappointment, turn east on North Mountain Rd at Heathcote Junction on the Hume Fwy, then follow Main Mountain Rd to its intersection with Flowerdale Rd, where you will find the camping area.
Facilities at the Mount Disappointment campsite are limited, so please carry your own water, food, and firewood. A fuel stove is recommended. There are no facilities for rubbish collection.
