Approximately two-thirds of French Island, located in Westernport Victoria, is a National Park popular with bushwalkers, mountain biking and birdwatching. There are also significant populations of koalas and potoroos on French Island. French Island National Park is accessible only by passenger ferry, French Island is a haven of peace and tranquillity, home to a diverse range of wildlife and containing environments ranging from saltmarsh areas to open woodlands. Visitors to French Island can explore the park by bus, bike or on foot, using the network of public roads and management tracks. You will find a range of full day, half day and shorter walks and rides starting at Tankerton Foreshore Reserve.
How to Get to French Island
Take the passenger ferry from Stony Point to French Island. You can book by calling the 24-hour Information line on (03) 9585 5730. The ferry trip takes just 10-12 minutes and delivers you to Tankerton Jetty on French Island – the Ranger station is located next to the pier.
It is recommended that you check ferry timetables and weather conditions – ferry services can be cancelled at short notice due to adverse weather conditions.
