The spectacular, high-peaked ridge of the Cathedral Range offers great opportunities for avid bushwalkers, rock climbing and other outdoor pursuits to suit all interests and all levels of fitness and ability. To get to the Cathedral Range State Park, take Cathedral Lane off the Maroondah Hwy between Taggerty and Buxton. During the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, some 92% of Cathedral State park was damaged by fire, and is therefore still recovering. And whilst access to most areas has been restored, it is recommended that you contact Parks Victoria for the latest information.
Advance bookings for campsites located in the Cathedral Range State Park Victoria are required. You can book Neds Gully Camping area. Advance bookings and payment for camping are required year round for Neds Gully Campsite and Cooks Mill Campsite – fees no longer apply to Farmyard campground.
The Cathedral Range State Park is easily accessible from Melbourne. From Melbourne follow the Maroondah Highway to Buxton towards Taggerty. Continue past Buxton for app. 9.5 kilometres then turn right into Cathedral Lane. You will find the park entrance 2.5 kilometres on your right. Roads within the park are not suitable for coaches, buses or larger vehicles beyond Little River Bridge.
Campfire guidelines
- Light fires only in the fireplaces provided; we recommend the use of a portable camping stove
- Ensure fires are never left unattended and are completely extinguished before you leave – check, double check and check again!
- During summer and autumn Total Fire Bans in the state of Victoria are common – this means no open fires can be lit whatsoever. No exceptions.
