The campground Catford Upper Big River State Forest Victoria Australia is one of many campsites located in the Upper Big River State Forest. This Forest is about 130 km north east of Melbourne and app. 30-minutes drive from the town of Marysville. Three of the larger camping areas in the Upper Big River State Forest are Stockmans Reward Camp, Frenchmans Creek Camp and Big River Camp are suitable for small caravans and activities involving larger groups such as fishing trips. Access to Catford Campground is signposted off Big River Road, app. 2 kilometres north of Big Bend Creek Campsite. You must carry your own food, water and firewood. Take all rubbish with you; dogs are permitted but must be kept under control at all times. There are no charges to camp at Catford Camping Area – bookings cannot be made. The Catford camping area is as far as campers can go for an overnight stay in the upper section of Big River State Forest. Beyond this point only the 25 Mile Creek offers camping opportunities. The access track leading to the Catford campsite, and that will get you close to the river, can be accessed by a standard 2WD vehicle during dry weather. However, following heavy rain or during periods of wet weather a 4WD vehicle is required.
