Camp Vennells Upper Big River State Forest, Melbourne Victoria. At Vennells Campground there are 2 small dispersed flat campsites next to Big River and located just below the Big River Rd. The Vennells camping area is well shaded and secluded by Peppermint and Mountain Ash and there is thick undergrowth and is backed by steep forested slopes. Access to Vennells Campsite is signposted off Big River Road, app. 2 kilometres from Peppermint Ridge Camping. There are limited facilities at Vennells campsite – you must carry your own fresh water, food and firewood. Please remove all rubbish, dogs are OK if kept on a lead and kept under control. Vennells camping area is one of the more private bush camping areas in the upper section of Big River State Forest. Vennells is a quiet and private spot that rewards campers prepared to travel to the Big River Forest Reserve for a riverside camping experience. Vennells is popular with anglers chasing an elusive trout. Vennells campground is suitable for camper trailer and small caravans, and is accessible via 2WD but not after wet weather. Vennells is a popular campsite for groups to get together as well.
