About
The Big River Campsite Upper Big River State Forest Victoria Australia is located on Big River Road at the junction of Wildon-Warburton Road, and app. 6 kilometres north east of Maryville Woods Point Road. You must carry your own firewood and fresh drinking water. The Big River Campsite is a large bush camp site with grassed clearings on both sides of the road into surrounding forest, especially on the south side away from the creek. The ground is light gravel and is gently sloping. This campsite offers good shading from Blackwood, Mountain Ash and wattle trees. Blue Wrens, tree climbers and kookaburras are common around this area. The Big River Campsite is popular with trail bikers, especially at weekends, Easter and Christmas holidays and on long weekends. This is a popular campsite, and is showing wear and tear as a result of high use. There are 20 campsites in this area; bookings can’t be made – it is first in first served. The Big River Campsite is one of the first camping areas you’ll come to after entering the upper section of Big River State Forest in the direction from Marysville. It’s also one of only 3 places in the area that can comfortably accommodate large groups of campers; the other 2 are Stockmans Reward Camping and Frenchmans Creek campsite. Big River Camp is at the junction of Big River Rd and the Eildon–Warburton Rd, almost 6 km north-east of the Marysville–Woods Point Rd.
